TEACHER - CHILD RATIOS

A high teacher/child ratio with the younger classes ensures that the children will be carefully supervised and given more individual attention and assistance, particularly in the areas of personal hygiene needs and self-help skills development. The ratio for the older groups reflects the fact that the children gradually become more independent and socially more group oriented. The maximum class numbers are 12, in the younger classes and 16 in the older classes.

CHILD PROFILE AND PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT

BIP aims to develop children's capacity for self-discovery and reflection and to document and share children's many different learning experiences.

An individual Portfolio of children's work celebrates their progress and achievements and serves to share an overall picture of your child as a developing learner, recorded throughout their time in the school.

To gain a comprehensive view of your child's developing potential and to ensure that the learning needs of all children are being met, teachers also maintain a regular system of observation and feedback which is shared with parents formally, twice a year, in the form of a Child Profile and at the individual Parent/Teacher conferences.

HOME - SCHOOL COMMUNICATION

Parents are encouraged to maintain close contact with the school. A Home-School communication book and a folder will be sent home at the end of every day.  These will be used to keep you up-to-date on the planned activities for each week, and for information on school visits or special occasions happening within your child's class or within the school.  A newsletter will also provide you with information about what is happening within the school community as a whole.

COUNSELLING SERVICE

The school supports the individual needs of every child and if necessary, specialist support is provided for teachers in the classroom, helping them to develop individual programs as needed. Our in-house counsellor will be working regularly with individual children or small groups in consultation with the school and families.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

There are many ways parents can enrich the school environment. They can become involved with classroom based activities (such as cooking and sharing books with children), support school events and activities and/or join your child's class field trips.  Parents are always welcome to visit their child's classroom, whether simply to read a story, carry out an activity or to share something special from their cultural/national background with the children - particularly at celebration and festival times.

Class Parents' Co-ordinator

Each class has parents who volunteer to represent the class families. They help to maintain regular and productive communication between school and class families, aid in coordinating class events, fund-raisers and educational activities with the class teacher and ensure that all parents are part of the communication chain

CALENDAR

The school year is divided into three terms, with winter and spring holidays as well as short half term breaks. We also follow the host country holiday schedule with the national and religious holidays/bayrams. A school year is 180 days. A copy of of our calendar is available here.

FOOD IN SCHOOL

Nutritious lunches and two snacks are served daily, the price of which are included in the tuition fee.  Food is served in the classrooms and while the younger students are served by the teaching staff, the older students are encouraged to serve themselves or assist the teacher during snack and lunch times. Please click here for this month's menu.

SCHOOL SERVICE

A school service may be available for the area in which you live.  The school service is owned and operated by both the Preschool and an independent company.  All buses have a hostess, seat belts and private accident insurance. The cost of the school service is not included in the fees.

MOM and BABY GROUP

A Mom and Baby group runs every Tuesday during term time from 10 to 11.30am. The session consists of a teacher organised activity, song circle time and half an hour of garden play (weather permitting) at no charge. Coffee, tea, milk and snack provided. Please register by calling 277 84 44 or emailing preschool@bipschool.net one day prior to the session as numbers are limited to 10 children and their carers to avoid overcrowding.
